Local wrestlers excel at tournaments around state: Saturday's wrestling roundup

On December 18, 2024, Middle Township wrestling hosts Hammonton High School.

Four Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestlers won titles Saturday at the Gateway Gator Tournament at Gateway Regional.

Chase Hansen (138 pounds), Daniel Byrne (150), Gabe Tosto (157) and David Douglass (175) each won championships.

Tosto, Hansen and Douglass pinned their opponents in the final, and Byrne won the title with a 15-8 decision.

Lenape won the team title with 299.5 points. The Caper Tigers were second in team scoring with 238 points.

Lower's Landon Shivers (106), Connor Barikian (126), Dominick Marrero (144) and Jake Hearon (215) each placed second.

The Caper. Tigers' Billy Whitney (132), Shane Morrell (165) and Caden Britton (285) each were third.

Buena Regional's Brian Passamante (215) also placed third. Teammate Gionni Sharkey (144) placed fourth.

Eight Middle Township wrestlers reached finals Saturday at the annual tournament at Hammonton High School, and five won titles.

The Panthers also won the team championship with 218.5 points.

Calvin Parke (106), Robert Attenborough (157), Max Adelizzi (190), Shaun Watkins (215) and Maurice Matthews (285) each won individual titles.

Parke won the title with a 14-6 major decision, and Watkins won an 11-3 major decision. Matthews won an 8-0 decision in the final. Attenborough won with a 7-3 decision in the final, and Adelizzi pinned his opponent to win the title.

Hammonton's Shane Way (126) and Vincent Palermo (165) won titles. Way won by technical fall in the final, and won a 13-2 major decision in the final.

The Blue Devils' Luca Giagunto lost in the ultimate tiebreaker in the 138 final, and placed second.

The Panthers' Cameron Parke (113), Tyler King (44) and Connor Rowlands (150) each were second. Teammates Ben Banks (113) and Noah Nagle (165) each placed fourth.

Queen of the East

Egg Harbor Township junior Cami Bird captured the title at 126 at the annual tournament at Jackson Liberty.

Ocean City's Danna Ramirez placed third at 138.

Bird won all four of her matches by pin en route to the tile. She was a first-team Press All Star last season after winning the South Region title and placing sixth at the state tournament

On Saturday, Ramirez won her first two matches by pin before losing in the semifinals. She won both of her wrestleback bouts, including a technical fall in the third-place bout.

Garden State Classic

Barnegat's John Giblock (126), Trey DeMeo (150) and Gerald Miller (175) each won titles at their home tournament.

The Bengals' Cuinn Pascavage (285), Gregory Mamola (132) and Michael Baccigalupi (106) placed second, as did Atlantic City's Javonte Johnson Pinkston (157).

Barnegat's Jayden Nieto (157) and Jean Marrero (190) each were third.

Cedar Creek's Cole Burton (165), Giovanni Carnes (175) and Carlos Villarrubia (215) placed fourth
