"Chop was kind of getting frustrated," Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks recalled Tuesday. "He wasn't getting the sacks yet. I remember talking to him saying, 'Just get your celebration ready.' He was telling me, 'You know, I got one I got one up my sleeve.'"
In Sunday's defeat of the 49ers, Chop picked up his sixth sack of the season.
Chop was near the Dolphins' sideline so he did his patented "Chop" wood celebration with Tyrell Dodson, Cameron Goode and Tyrel Dodson and several other players out of uniform.
It was a thing of beauty; perfectly in sync.
"Cool moment," Robinson said Tuesday, adding," We all hit it. It felt good."
Will Chop Robinson break Jaelan Phillips' Dolphins record?
"No, I didn't even know about the record," said Chop, who is affable but deadly serious about his craft.
Chop has had a strong rookie season.
In fact, he's tied for fifth with Micah Parson in pass-rush win rate, according to Pro Football Focus, just ahead of Nick Bosa.
"I don't really pay attention to it," said Chop, who is pleasant, but deadly focused on his craft.
A lot has been made about Miami's decision to let talented pass rusher Andrew Van Ginkel go to Minnesota in free agency.
It seems relevant that PFF ranks Van Ginkel 60th in pass-rush win rate.
Dolphins players are encouraged by Chop's rapid development.
Chop Robinson's upside for Miami Dolphins is 'scary'
"Crazy, man," Miami offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn said. "Just to see where he started, from when he came in, you know, and just to see him refine and hone in on his skills, I mean, it's scary. It's scary to see, you know, how high his ceiling is."
The players ranked first and second by PFF in pass-rush win rate are Aidan Hutchinson and Myles Garrett. These are the types of players Chop wants to become.
Chop's early-season frustrations have abated as he's making adjustments to the pro game.
"I'm getting different pass sets," Robinson said. "Guys are grabbing me more, punching different. So I just had a lot from that from the first game, when I started coming in, and then once I picked up on it, I was able to basically like learn from it and use it against them. Instead of just trying to use what I had to use, I had to use what they had against me."
Robinson appears to be a good choice by general manager Chris Grier with a 21st overall pick. It also appears Chop already has one of the league's best sack celebrations.
"I love his celebration," said Brooks, the linebacker. "I don't know where he got it from but it fits him; fits the name. It's been great. Another one that I like, all-time, is Ray Lewis coming out the tunnel. That celebration is iconic. But Chop's definitely up there, for sure."
