The pop star made the statement while slamming the "extremely mean and cruel" paparazzi.
Britney Spears stated that she had "moved to Mexico" in a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, though it was unclear whether she meant for the claim to be taken seriously.
In the clip and another video posted the same day, the pop icon detailed her reasons for the "move," blaming the ongoing treatment she's received from the paparazzi.
"I'm not really sure why the paparazzi have me going on a plane, looking like I'm wearing a Jason mask," she said in an apparent reference to photos published the day before.
In the second video, she said the way the paparazzi depict her "hurts her feelings" and is "extremely mean and cruel."
"That's why I've moved to Mexico," she concluded.
It's unclear if Spears was being serious, trolling the internet or simply kidding around. She was really in Mexico, where she flew for her 43rd birthday celebration. In one of the Instagram videos, she also said she was only turning 5.
Whether or not she's moved for real, her ongoing hatred for tabloid photographers is undeniable.
"FUCK YOU AND FUCK OFF," she wrote in a 2021 message to the paparazzi. while on vacation in Hawaii with her now-ex-husband Sam Asghari.
"It's pretty hard going anywhere cause these silly faces keep popping up to take my picture," she wrote in the post.
In another Instagram post from April 2023, Spears shared an anecdote about a time she asked Asghari to block her from street photographers, but they got images of her anyway.
"I looked like an idiot !!!" Spears said. "My facial expression, the way I was leaning over, the pooch in my stomach!!! It was horrible because they got a pic of me in a helpless situation, so of course I get protective of myself!!!"
In the same 2023 post, the "Gimme More" singer described a similar situation on an outing with a friend.
"I went out with a friend and same thing!!!" Spears wrote, slamming photographers for taking "nasty pap pics" that made her look worse than she really did.
