LEXINGTON -- Marion Harding earned a share of the regular-season girls tennis championship in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, tying with Shelby at 11-1.
It is Harding's first girls tennis title in the MOAC since sharing it with the Whippets in 2019. It is Shelby's sixth straight MOAC crown.

Marion Harding picked up a pair of 5-0 victories in straight sets over Pleasant and Galion to claim its share. Picking up those wins were Raina Smith, Audrey Feasel and Abbey Hoertz in singles, and Abigail Hanke/Keira Camp and Kaia Berry/Macey Harper in doubles.
Here are some more highlights from the last week for Marion-area girls athletics in the fall.
More Tennis
● Shelby won the MOAC tournament at Lakewood Racquet Club in Lexington, winning championships in first and second singles and both doubles to score 30 points.
● The Presidents were runners-up with 24 points. Hoertz was the champion in third singles, while Feasel was the runner-up in second singles. Smith was third in first singles. Hanke/Camp was third in first doubles as was Berry/Harper.
● Pleasant was fifth as Anya Miller was fifth in first singles, Kylie Klaiber fifth in second singles, Bailey Leslie fourth in third singles and Sarah Jordan/Keya Patel were fourth in second doubles.
● River Valley was sixth. Elise Osborne took fifth in first singles, while Amelia Young was sixth in second singles. Phoebe Klenzman sixth in third singles, Natalie Polley/Kennedy Rensch fifth in first doubles and Ava Stover/Brooke Adams fifth in second doubles.
Golf
● North Union got the last district spot by five strokes, finishing third with a 397 at the Division II Darby Creek sectional. Madelyn Taylor shot 94 for the Wildcats, while Kelsie Price had a 95, Charlee Brestle a 98, Kaylee Rensel at 110 and Gabby Lindsey a 114. The district is at 9 a.m. Wednesday at The Links Echo Springs at Johnstown.
● Highland's Ceci Grassbaugh shot a 79 to tie for third at the Darby Creek sectional and advance to the district as an individual. Northmor's Katelyn Miley did the same with a sixth-place 83 at the Blacklick Woods sectional. The two Morrow County standouts will play together Wednesday at 10:50 a.m.
● Pleasant was sixth at the Darby Creek sectional with a 409. Maddie Murphy shot an 88 for ninth place, while Anna Songer was 15th at 95. Emery Gorenflo had a 107, Reese Hunt a 119 and Calliope McNulty a 141.
● Highland ended in seventh at 427 as Sierra Fitzpatrick backed Grassbaugh with a 104, and Ellie Rhea and Piper Dabbert had 121 and 123 respecitvely.
● Elgin's Miley Corbin had a 121 and Kaylee Crist a 141 at Darby Creek.
● After Miley for the Golden Knights at Blacklick Woods, Katalina Roseberry shot 101, Ava Pernia 102 Saleen Miller 104 and Delaney Carver 121.
Cross Country
● There were 20 teams, 32 schools and 221 runners in the Denny Stevens Invitational at Fredericktown's Kokosing Reservoir. Mount Gilead was fourth, Northmor seventh, Marion Harding ninth, River Valley 13th, Highland 14th, Cardington 15th, Pleasant 17th, and Ridgedale, Gilead Christian and Elgin also had runners compete.
● Marion Harding's Lydia Price won the Denny Stevens in 18:49, while Leah Price was fourth in 19:09, and Laina Camp was 56th in 22:19..
● Placing in the top 125 for Mount Gilead were Kimberly Staley (eighth, 20:03), Gwen Hershner (15th, 20:20), Adriana Hershner (38th, 21:33), Haley Pfeifer (39th, 21:34), Danielle Pohlkotte (59th, 22:32), Sophie Mosher (75th, 23:13) and Natalie Jagger (123rd, 24:41).
● Placing in the top 125 for Northmor were Ryann Brinkman (11th, 20:07), Natalie Hunter (41st, 21:36), Veronica Kanagy (48th, 21:57), Kate Lehman (63rd, 22:37), Macie Witherall (66th, 22:50), Natalie Newman (68th, 22:51) and Maddie May (77th, 23:19).
● Placing in the top 125 for River Valley were Erica Mason (24th, 20:50), Madison Lust (50th, 22:06), Addi Ebert (1117th, 24:35), Finley Blevins (121st, 24:39) and Katie Garrison (122nd, 24:39).
● Placing in the top 124 for Highland were Braylin Romshak (70th, 22:54), Riley Matthews (71st, 22:54), Brielle Gilmore (73rd, 23:00), and Rose Green (74th, 23:05).
● Placing in the top 125 for Cardington were Magi Hallabrin (34th, 21:28), Dezzeray Mooney (84th, 23:31), Chessa Redman (106th, 24:11), Madison Garrabrant (108th, 24:13), Alayna Seavolt (115th, 24:33).
● Placing in the top 125 for Pleasant were Sarah Jordan (27th, 21:03), Nicole Robinson (51st, 22:11) and Olivia Meyers (98th, 23:56).
● Placing in the top 125 for Gilead Christian was Seraiah Campbell (33rd, 21:21), and for Elgin, Bailey Abbott (109th, 24:16).
● At the North Union Invitational, the hosts were runners-up with 58 points behind Kenton's 35. Harding was third with 77 and Pleasant fourth with 84. Lydia Price won her ninth race in a row, clocking 19:29, while Leah Price was fourth in 20:59. Also finishing in the top 25 were North Union's Kennedy Ludwig (sixth, 21:26), NU's Kailin McElroy (seventh, 21:55), Campbell (ninth, 22:00), NU's Lauren Hall (10th, 22:10), Jordan (11th, 22:57), Robinson (13th, 23:05), NU's Savannah Amstutz (14th, 23:19), Camp (16th, 23:40), Meyers (17th, 24:14), GC's Aryanna Green (19th, 24:30), Pleasant's Lydia Baumgartner (21st, 24:32) and Abbott (22nd, 24:59).
● Northmor won the Buckeye Central Invitational with 43 points. Running for the Knights were Brinkman (fourth, 20:50), Hunter (seventh, 21:34), Natalie Newman (12th, 22:34), Lehman (13th, 22:38), Kanagy (15th, 22:54), Witherall (23rd, 23:22) and Shelby Cooper (26th, 23:48). Ridgedale's Hannah Staton was 48th in 25:53 and Alena Villavencencio 49th in 26:08.
Volleyball
● Elgin took two steps toward a Northwest Central Conference title when it beat Waynesfield-Goshen 3-1 and Upper Scioto Valley 3-0 to run its record to 13-4 overall and 7-0 in the league. The Comets can clinch at least a share of the title at home Thursday against Perry. In the W-G match, Kendra Applefeller had 11 kills, five blocks and 15 assists, Kadence Gear 11 kills, four blocks and 15 assists and Delainy Boles 10 kills, 10 digs and 23 serve receptions.
● Pleasant handled Clear Fork 3-0. Kam Cocherl led with 13 kills and seven points, while Kenzley Davis had 12 kills and seven points, and Syd Smith had 36 assists and 15 points. In its 3-0 win over Ontario, Cocherly had 17 points and 19 kills, Smith 39 assists, Madi Pendleton 14 points and 13 digs and Quinn Wilson six kills.
● Ridgedale used a 15-11 fifth set to beat Cory-Rawson 3-2. Richelle Gleespen posted 32 digs, while Brenda Scott had nine kills, and Maylee Mullins had 12 digs. North Baltimore beat the Rockets 15-7 in the fifth of a 3-2 win. Gleespen recorded 14 digs, Hannah Murphy chipped in with 16 points, four aces and 14 assists, and Callie Comer and Scott each had eight kills with Scott adding four aces.
● Highland's Kameron Stover became the school's all-time leader in kills, topping the 1,637 produced by Kam Terrry from 2011-14. Stover reached it in the middle of the third set during a 3-0 win over Loudonville. She had 25 kills in the match and has 1,643 and counting. Kendal Kline added 25 assists, Addie Mullins six aces, Mia Stanco four blocks and Reagan Maibach 15 digs.
● In Highland's 3-0 win over Galion, Stover led with 31 kills and four aces, Kline with 36 assists and three aces, Maibach with seven kills and 10 digs and Merckling with 18 digs. The Scots fell at Shelby 3-2 after holding a 2-0 lead. Stover put down 39 kills, six aces and five blocks, while Kline had 47 assists and six aces, Maibach 10 kills and 10 aces, Jossalyn Varney four blocks and Merckling 15 digs.
● River Valley rallied for 3-2 win at Marion Harding, winning the fifth set 19-17. Myla Kenney led the Vikings with nine kills and eight blocks, while Emma Chiles had 15 assists and three aces, and Hailee Osborne had 15 digs.
● North Union got 46 assists, four blocks and 13 digs from Kennedy Harrah, 15 kills and six blocks from Lexi Wills, 12 kills and 18 digs from Glory Blevins, 10 kills, 10 digs and six blocks from Kate Zimmerman and 25 digs from Emma McElroy in a 3-2 win over Northwestern that went 19-17 in the fifth set. Mallory Temple served six aces in a 3-0 win over Graham where Zimmerman had 13 kills and Harrah 29 assists.
Soccer
● River Valley's Avery Street was fouled, and Megan Thompson scored on the subsequent free kick as the Vikings held on for a 1-0 win over Cory-Rawson. Ellie Row earned her second shutout, saving 13 shots, while Val Riegel made a key save as a right back defender at the goal. Chloe Addis, Cara Barnes and Rylee McGowan were cited for their play in the midfield coach head coach Justin Hage.
● North Union tied Bellefontaine 4-4. Leah Matlack scored twice, while Kale Keigley had a goal and two assists, Kinley Blazer a goal and assist and Paisley Jordan her first career assist.
