Case 67: Ms. L is 72 and lives alone, with no local family but a community of neighbors who look out for each other. All her life Ms. L has struggled with having fragile bones and joints, requiring multiple surgeries to repair her ankle and leg. She lives with rheumatoid and degenerative arthritis, and is in remission for breast cancer. Ms. L rarely is able to leave her apartment. Her biggest need is more than $600 in medical debt. And her doctor says she needs to take a bone supplement, but it costs a $45 copay per month and she simply can't afford it.

Case 68: Ms. J, 40, is a single mom raising two children, ages 16 and 11. She has been reunited with her kids after a long road with drug and alcohol addiction. She had a good job as a phlebotomist and was doing well, until the addictions took hold. She went into recovery and realized that she would relapse if she stayed in the same environment so she moved away for a while. She returned home in June and has been living with her parents and kids, and working as a home health aide while looking for work as a phlebotomist. She's hoping to move out soon and is attending NA and AA meetings. She would appreciate some help giving her kids a nice holiday.
