Google Gemini enables message sending and calling on WhatsApp.
Google has started expanding the rollout of its Gemini Extensions, initially introduced in October, adding exciting new features to popular apps like Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp. These extensions enable users to carry out tasks such as sending messages and making calls without needing to open the apps manually.
With the Phone extension, Gemini now directly interacts with the calling app on your device. This means users can make hands-free calls simply by asking the assistant to dial contacts, businesses, or specific phone numbers. The Messages extension goes further, allowing Gemini to send text messages, create drafts, and edit existing messages, all through voice commands, streamlining communication and saving time.
For WhatsApp users, Gemini can perform tasks within the app, though users need to specify that the action should occur on WhatsApp. For example, saying "Call [Contact Name] on WhatsApp" or "Send a WhatsApp message to [Contact Name]" prompts Gemini to take action directly within the app, so users don't have to switch between different platforms.
In addition to messaging and calling, Google has also added an extension for Spotify, allowing users to ask Gemini to search for and play music. Whether it's a song, album, artist, or playlist, Gemini can handle the request, providing a hands-free music experience. This functionality is also available on YouTube Music, offering even more options for music lovers.
To use these features, users must set Gemini as their primary assistant and ensure it's set to respond to English-language prompts. Additionally, users need to enable the Gemini Apps Activity setting to activate these extensions, a process that can be easily done through the app's settings.
With Gemini's functionality now extended across several apps, users can enjoy a smoother and more intuitive experience. As Google continues to roll out these extensions, further integration across devices will enhance the ability to complete tasks hands-free, improving the overall Android experience.
