Four pedestrians were injured and sent to the hospital, one in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, after a 31-year-old male driver was seen driving down the wrong side of the road in London's West End, before jumping a sidewalk and plowing into a crowd of pedestrians.

Police arrived on the scene following reports by individuals who witnessed the incident. The driver who slammed into the four pedestrians has since been arrested for attempted murder.

London's Busy West End Theater District a Popular Destination for Locals and Tourists
Police reports indicate the incident took place at 12:45 a.m. on Shaftesbury Avenue in London's busy West End Theater District in front of Sondheim Theater, where the popular musical Les Misérables plays nightly.
Authorities have indicated they believe the incident was an isolated one, and not a terrorist attack.
"It's believed that the suspect was involved in an altercation at a nightclub prior to getting in his car and mounting the pavement," Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy said. "Detectives are quickly progressing inquiries as part of this investigation.

The area in which the accident took place has been cordoned off by London police; clothing, shoes, and blood were left behind; a nightmarish scene on Christmas morning.
