Paul Edward Pleiser was born on Oct. 8, 1947 to John and Mary Joan Pleiser. He lived in Inglewood, California, his entire life until his daughter Krista persuaded him to move to Santa Barbara in 2018, where he resided until his death of melanoma cancer on Sept. 18, 2024.
Inglewood will always be considered home since Paul grew up there with his parents, three siblings, and a slew of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends.
You could always find the family together, given that there was always some sort of party or holiday to celebrate or a project to do such as car repairs, plumbing, or yard work.
Paul attended St. John the Evangelist for grade school, then Loyola High School. He graduated with his bachelor's degree from San Fernando Valley State College, later known as California State University Northridge.
In high school he started working at the boat dock gas station in Marina del Rey, where he stayed for 10 years until he started working in banks. He began his professional career at Standard Register, then went to Mitsubishi Bank, which merged multiple times, and he retired in 2006 from Union Bank of California.
Retirement allowed Paul to travel more, which was one of his passions. He was able to take a driving trip with his daughter around the United States; a train trip and cruise in Alaska; walk the lava fields of Hawaii; and visit his sisters and their families in Texas and Georgia.
Besides traveling, Paul had a passion for water skiing, snow skiing, camping, hunting, and car rides, but most importantly he loved doing these things with his family.
He loved teaching his grandsons how to play baseball, fish, understand the plot of a bad Western movie, and fix a car. He loved sitting with his granddaughter on the patio swing and read to her.
He helped his daughter immensely with parental advice, including how to fix the plumbing, the best way of cutting down a bush, and being a listening board. However, the biggest impact Paul had in his life was being there for his family and being Krista's best friend, confidant and advocate.
Paul was predeceased by his mother and father Joan and John Pleiser; sister Elizabeth Edwards; and brother John Pleiser.
He is survived by his daughter Krista; son-in-law Mark Chambers; three grandchildren Patrick, 9, Christopher, 7, and Ava, 2; and sister Theresa Clutterbuck.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at St. Raphael Church, 5444 Hollister Ave., Santa Barbara.
