A former educator in the Uniontown School District in southeastern Kansas accepted a plea deal Tuesday in which she agreed not to seek a job as a teacher again after she allegedly had sexual contact with a student.
Breanna Taylor was charged in February in Bourbon County District Court with a count of unlawful sexual relations for an incident involving a teenage student while Taylor was a teacher with the Uniontown School District.
As part of a plea agreement, she entered an Alford plea Tuesday on one count of furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a minor for illicit purposes. In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction if the case went to trial. Taylor agreed to not work as a teacher again as part of her plea deal.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
A message sent to Taylor's attorney was not immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
In an email to The Star, Uniontown School District Superintendent Vance Eden said Taylor was no longer employed by the district, noting the district's board terminated her employment March 20.
In a social media post Feb. 25, the school district said Taylor, a junior high teacher, had been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation after district officials were made aware of an allegation of "inappropriate conduct" toward a student "outside of the school environment."
