NEW YORK (PIX11) - Drivers heading to New York City are preparing to pay a $9 congestion pricing toll if they enter Manhattan below 60th Street.
There are some exemptions and discounts in place to help low-income drivers or those who use MTA-owned bridges and tunnels. The toll is also cheaper during the overnight hours, at $2.25 for cars.
Congestion pricing is expected to start on Jan. 5. There are still several lawsuits pending against the plan, but two federal judges recently refused to grant temporary injunctions - which could've delayed its start date.
The MTA is also encouraging drivers not to use products like license plate covers to evade the upcoming tolls. A fine for obstructing your license plate could cost as much as $500, according to authorities.
