The Hoenn region, a location in the vast world of Pokémon, is well-known for its abundance of water and diverse biomes scattered around the land. Because of the many different types of habitats found in Hoenn, from the perilous sandstorms of Route 111 to the ash-filled grasslands of Route 113, there are various unique types of Pokémon that originate from the region. There is truly a Pokémon from the Hoenn region for any Trainer, from the fierce Mightyena to the towering Tropius.
While Hoenn is renowned for introducing some of the most iconic Pokémon in the entire franchise, many Pokémon from the region reign supreme compared to others from the area. Some of Hoenn's best Pokémon retain their reputation due to their role as a Legendary Pokémon; even fewer are fortunate enough to be regarded as a Mythical Pokémon. Others do not have either of these classifications, yet retain their popularity due to their unique designs and immense power.

Gardevoir is extremely protective of its Trainer, and will even sacrifice its own life to save their life; in fact, the Pokédex remarks that in the most dire of moments, Gardevoir will use most of its power to create a small black hole. When not in battle, the Embrace Pokémon is noted to be a docile and kind creature, and will usually only fight if provoked. Gardevoir is also one of many Pokémon to be able to use the power of Mega Evolution if exposed to a Key Stone, and if it has a Gardevoirite in its possession. As Mega Gardevoir, the Embrace Pokémon's dress takes on a wedding gown-like appearance, and its powers are now at full power during battle.
9 Absol Looks After Other Beings From Afar
The Disaster Pokémon Was Once Shunned by Humanity
Hidden in the mountain ranges of the Hoenn region, and even in some rare grasslands, lie the Disaster Pokémon. Absol is a creature with a striking design, with a flowing white coat, sharp navy blue claws and a distinctive horn on the side of its head. These Pokémon have gained their Pokédex classification due to their tendency to appear before people right before a terrible disaster strikes. In the past, people feared this species of Pokémon and drove them away, hence why Absol are found so rarely nowadays.
In reality, this Pokémon is far from being a sinister force; Absol only shows its face to humanity when it wants to warn them. The Disaster Pokémon possesses the ability to see the future, hence why it can learn the Psychic-type move Future Sight despite being a Dark-type Pokémon. Absol is also able to go through the process of Mega Evolution, with its Mega Stone introduced in Generation VI. Though Mega Absol is indeed beautiful and powerful, it strongly dislikes being in this form as it already dislikes fighting most of the time.
8 Swampert Is Swift and Possesses Great Strength
The Water/Ground-type Starter of the Region
For new Trainers in the Hoenn region, each new player is presented with the choice of their first starter Pokémon, all of different types. The Water-type starter, Mudkip, is a popular choice due to its Defense and adorable design. A good-natured Pokémon, Mudkip is very strong despite its small size and uses its fins to sense danger before it occurs. Over time, Mudkip will later evolve into Marshtomp, and finally Swampert as its final form.
When it is fully evolved, Swampert is now even stronger than before, able to even tow a ship while swimming effortlessly through the ocean. Though it has a bulky physique, it remains one of the most powerful swimmers from the Hoenn region, and has a vast movepool to go alongside its primary type. With its secondary Ground-type, Swampert is immune to the Electric-type, a source of energy that would prove supereffective if the Mud Fish Pokémon did not have this secondary type. Like the other Hoenn-based starters, Swampert can also use the power of Mega Evolution; as Mega Swampert, the Mud Fish Pokémon becomes even stronger than before, and can deliver devastating punches to its opponents during combat.
7 Sceptile Remains Collected During Battle
The Grass-type Gains a New Type With Mega Evolution
The Grass-type starter Pokémon, Treecko, is known for its calm and collected demeanor, a personality that rarely gets upset. It is also extremely agile, often found leaping from tree to tree in the forests of Hoenn. By leveling up, Treecko will be able to evolve into Grovyle, and then Sceptile with enough experience. As Sceptile, it has retained its collected behavior, though its agility and speed have increased drastically.
Sceptile continues to live in the same forest environments it roamed as a Treecko, though now it acts as the guardian of these types of biomes, helping to ensure the health of its home. If a Pokémon wishes to fight the Forest Pokémon in a jungle habitat, they are out of luck, as Sceptile's power is at its best. With the power of a Key Stone, Sceptile can evolve into Mega Sceptile, and even take on a brand-new type. As a Grass/Dragon-type, Sceptile's power is now even stronger, though a wise Trainer should be careful when in the presence of a Fairy-type with this secondary type.
6 Blaziken Is the First Fire/Fighting-type Starter
A Far Cry From Its Original Form as Torchic
Infernape and Emboar are well-known for their Fire/Fighting-typing, yet this trend began due to the influence of the Fire-type starter of the Hoenn region, which is Torchic. The Chick Pokémon is clumsy on its feet and rather skittish by nature, preferring to stick close to its beloved Trainer. Though it is still learning how to use its power, Torchic has a lot of potential, a fact that its Trainers will take note of overtime. After evolving into Combusken and gaining the secondary Fighting-type, the final form achieved is Blaziken, the franchise's first Fire/Fighting-type Pokémon.
Blaziken is known for its incredible power and immense speed, as well as coining the move Blaze Kick. This Pokémon's legs are so strong that it can leap over tall buildings with ease, and its wrists will blaze brighter when facing an especially powerful foe. Like the other starter Pokémon of the Hoenn region, Blaziken is able to use the power of Mega Evolution. As Mega Blaziken, the Blaze Pokémon gains the Speed Boost Ability, which renders it able to dodge attacks even quicker than before and strike at opponents with awe-inspiring speed.
5 Jirachi Has the Power To Grant Wishes
The Wish Pokémon Will Only Remain Awake for Seven Days
Close
Jirachi, being a Mythical Pokémon, is rarely seen, even less so than many Legendary Pokémon. This little Pokémon is usually fast asleep, often hidden away in a cave. However, one must not try to attack it; even if Jirachi is asleep, it is able to fight still, and will retaliate back with incredible Psychic-type power. When awake, it displays a childlike wonder of the world, as it usually only remains awake for about a week every one thousand years.

The Wish Pokémon is able to grant anyone their greatest wish, hence their Pokédex classification. However, one must be wise with this power, and not use it for selfish reasons. In Pokémon: Jirachi, Wish Maker, that very thing occurs when the inventor, Butler, tries to capture Jirachi for his latest creation. Ash, Max, and the rest of their friends must race to return Jirachi safely home before Butler can catch up with them and unleash a new disaster upon the region.
4 Deoxys Is Bitter Rivals With Rayquaza
The DNA Pokémon Has Unusual Origins
In the depths of space, an unusual being lurks near the stratosphere; this creature is Deoxys, the DNA Pokémon. Bitter rivals with the Sky High Pokémon, Rayquaza, Deoxys often clashes with the Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon in an attempt to land on Earth. This Pokémon is the result of a laser beam crossing paths with a space virus, a strain that had undergone a mutation. As such, Deoxys is extraordinarily powerful, and is even able to change forms. These many forms are showcased in a variety of Pokémon media, from the games to Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys.
Deoxys has three other forms to transform into, other than its usual appearance. When in its Attack Forme, Deoxys will take on a fiercer appearance, designed with sharp angles and increased offensive power. Meanwhile, its Defense Forme showcases the DNA Pokémon in a much bulkier fashion, strong enough to withstand even the most brutal of attacks. Last but not least is its Speed Forme, which has Deoxys presented in a slightly smaller yet much swifter appearance in order to evade any attack that comes near it.
3 Groudon Is Able To Change Type Through Mega Evolution
The Continent Pokémon Has the Power To Expand the Earth
Long ago, the Ground-type Groudon fought a terrible battle against Kyogre, a Legendary Water-type Pokémon. Their feud was thankfully stopped by Rayquaza, the Sky High Pokémon; as such, the Continent Pokémon would slumber beneath a cavern full of magma for eons. Team Magma, w

anting to expand the earth for the land-dwelling creatures of the world, sought out this ancient Pokémon for their plan. Unfortunately, they were not prepared for the colossal being that they would awaken and accidentally anger.
With the power of Primal Reversion, Groudon is able to regain its true form from ancient times. In this form, the Continent Pokémon will become a Ground/Fire-type, and be able to better use one of its many Fire-type moves. Despite its typing, it is actually prepared against the very same Water-type attacks that would usually prove to be extremely dangerous against it. As Primal Groudon, it gains the Ability Desolate Land, which nullifies any Water-type moves, attacks or otherwise.
2 Kyogre Is the Embodiment of the Sea Itself
The Sea Basin Pokémon Usually Slumbers Underneath the Ocean
In a cavern hidden from most, beneath the waves, lies Kyogre, the Sea Basin Pokémon. This ancient Water-type Pokémon once clashed violently with its enemy Groudon eons ago before Rayquaza quelled their rage, forcing the two to slumber for several generations. Like Groudon, it is usually a calm creature unless it crosses paths with its rival, or when exposed to the wrong orb. If that occurs, then Kyogre will begin to expand the sea, causing terrible storms and floods in its wake.
As Primal Kyogre, the Sea Basin Pokémon does not change type, but it does gain a new Ability. The Primordial Sea Pokémon summons terribly heavy rainfall in the midst of a fight, as well as the nullification of any Fire-type move. In this form, Primal Kyogre's Attack, Special Attack, and Special Defense will raise in order to help it in battle. This will also allow its usual moves, including its signature move Origin Pulse, to become even stronger.
1 Rayquaza Watches Over Hoenn From the Stratosphere
The Sky High Pokémon Can Quell the Feuds of Kyogre and Groudon
Close
Long ago, Rayquaza watched Groudon and Kyogre clash and interfered in the deadly battle in order to save the Hoenn region. In Pokémon Emerald, it would rise again after Team Magma and Team Aqua awoke the two beasts and re-ignited their bitter feud. Though this battle is not present in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, the Sky High Pokémon appears during the Delta Episode after the games' main story, assisting the player against Deoxys. Usually, Rayquaza will remain in the planet's stratosphere, where it surveys the area for any possible threats, including the DNA Pokémon.
Rayquaza does not have the power to use Primal Reversion like the other super-ancient Pokémon, though it can utilize the power of Mega Evolution. As Mega Rayquaza, its design grows even more majestic, and its battle statistics also increase in power. Alongside its signature move of Dragon Ascent, Mega Rayquaza has the Ability of Delta Stream, which changes the weather drastically. This new atmosphere prevents the Flying-type from its usual weaknesses, having moves such as Electric-type attacks damage it normally.
